Stylist Tracy Gold gives her top tips to dressing for your shape so that all your ‘problem’ areas disappear.

For a pear shape: You are a pear if your hips, bum and thighs are your widest point with a narrow shoulders or a small bust.

Key to dressing this shape:
Creating balance between your shoulders or bust and hips.

At times, women have natural balance between their shoulder or bust and hips, but are unaware of it.  If your shoulders or bust are in line with your hips, use that advantage.

Wear tops and blouses that emphasise your shoulders or bust like halters, slash necklines (for shoulders) or v-necklines (for bust).

If your shoulders are small, make them look bigger by wearing a small shoulder pad in your jackets and wide collars.

If you have a small bust, wear padded bras and high or detailed necklines to make them look bigger.

Your tops and blouses need to emphasise your waist so it shows the balance you’ve created.

To balance your hips wear bootleg or slim leg rather than skinny or wide-leg trousers, or fishtail or a-line skirts. When the hem is the widest point, it balances everything else at the top.

For an apple shape:
You are an apple if your tummy and bust are your widest point with slim hips and legs.

Key to dressing this shape:
Minimise your tummy and create a waist.

Avoid wearing long baggy tops to hide your tummy as it only makes it look bigger. Wear lower waisted trousers (just below your belly button) with a wide waistband to "pull" in your tummy.

Avoid trousers and skirts with pleats and pocket detail as it adds extra bulk. Wear tops with shape in the waist that end just below the tummy, not longer.

Avoid wearing long shapeless jackets. Opt for a fitted cropped jacket or a knee length tailored coat.

If you have short legs, wear your trousers in very long length with a high heel underneath. It will make your legs look much longer than they really are.

If you are flat chested, wear high cut necklines or detailed necklines to give you volume as they can make your bust look bigger than it is.

Avoid very volumous skirts as you will lose shape. Rather wear short skirts to lengthen your legs or very shapely skirts, like fishtail, in just below the knee or full length.

For a big bust:
You have a big bust if your bust is your widest point.

Key to dressing this shape:
Minimise your bust to create balance.

A big bust is great if dressed well. Avoid anything with a high neckline like polo necks or small round neck, it will make you look like you have one big boob! Also avoid wearing baggy tops to "cover up" your bust as it makes you look bigger.

Wear v-necklines and scoop necklines to give your bust definition and shape.

If you struggle to find tops that fit your bust and the rest of your body, rather select fitted button down blouses that fit your waist and then wear them open with a fitted cami underneath.

This will draw the eye down the body instead of across. In most cases, instead of selecting bigger blouses to fit your bust, rather select a blouse that fits the rest of your body and wear a fitted cami underneath. It can cut your bust in half!

Make sure you are properly measured for a good bra. It can take centimeters off!
