5 Fashion Pieces for Hipsters

Fashion blogger Robyn Cooke, helps you fake your way to fitting into the hipster enclaves of Kloof Street, Greensides and even Shoreditch or Williamsburg.

The first rule of hipster is simple. Always deny being a hipster. This is easy enough when no one ever accuses you of such things. But if you harbor a secret desire for people to think you are hip, then deny, deny, deny.

Second, buy a vintage bicycle and make sure you are seen with it in cute, photographic spots.

Then you get your outfit right, as follows:

1.    Channel Alexa Chung at all times. In order to do this you need a button up collar on everything you wear.  Preferably rounded. The easiest way to do this is buy a detachable collar and add it to each daily outfit.

2.    Skirts are the single most essential must-have hipster item after a Peter Pan collar. The skirt should be full and pretty and a little like Alice in Wonderland. When you stand slightly pigeon-toed with your cute collar and cute skirt, you will look like a hipster.

3.    Pop on a cardigan. Preferably with a little lace detailing or some print.

4.    Shoes are flat. Brogues or loafers are equally ideal. Wear with socks.

5.    Finally add a silk scarf. Tie it in a 50s pin-up girl style, and add lashings of red lipstick. With your look complete, you will fit right in with the hipsters.
