Turn wooden beads into colourful jewels

You will need:

- wooden beads

- pretty serviettes

- sosatie skewers with a flat, broad tip

- modge podge

- decoupage varnish

- piece of florist’s foam

- leather thong

- scissors

- paintbrush

TIP: First check if the pictures on your serviettes will show up well on the wooden beads. If you prefer, paint the beads white to highlight the colours of the serviette.

To do:

1. Place the beads in sequence. We chose three different sizes of beads with the largest ones in the middle and the smallest ones at the ends.

2. Pull off the back layer of the serviette so you only have the front single layer with the motif on it.

3. Now cut out the sections of the serviette that you want to use – we used only the red and purple flower sections from our serviette.

4. Slip a bead over a skewer and paint with modge podge – you can use Dala Hard Varnish and Podge. Press a piece of serviette onto it and paint over modge podge. Repeat until the bead is covered.

5. Smooth out any wrinkles while the modge podge is still wet and then push the skewer into a piece of florist’s foam so the bead can dry. Do the same with the remaining beads.

6. Paint a coat of varnish over the beads once they are completely dry. Replace the skewers in the florist’s foam for the beads to dry then repeat with another coat of varnish, if you prefer.

7. Thread the beads onto the leather thong and then tie the ends securely with a double knot. Trim away the excess leather.
