My favourite jewellery box caught fire during load shedding

accreditation
This is one of the worst load shedding stories I would like to share.

Last year, July or August, the lights and TV went off as it was load shedding at 8pm. It was stage 2, so it came on at about 10pm. Anyway, I left the candle burning on the top of my drawer, as I left the room for a while and when I got back, I saw my valuables catch fire.

Amongst the things catching fire was a container, containing 9ct jewellery, a wooden vase and some other things. My jewellery was quite valuable so I was shocked, as my husband threw water on the blaze.

It still hurts me when I think of the jewellery I lost. Two more minutes and I would have lost more valuable stuff as they were also on the drawer.

Since then I keep an LED lighter. I only use the candle if I am constantly watching it. - Prashni
