I found a mushroom in my laundry bag and other load shedding horror stories

accreditation
In response to our Spindel laundry dryer competition, our readers share their load shedding horror stories with us.

I am a university student who lives in residence. Due to load shedding, over the past few months, I did not wash my laundry bag. Three weeks ago to my amazement, I discovered a mushroom in my laundry bag. I was obviously terrified when I saw this. This was one of the most bizarre things that I had seen. -  Eshlin

I went to Pick n Pay after work to get some groceries to prepare dinner. 15 Mins in to cooking at around 6:40, boom. Lights are out. In the cold, dark evening all my husband and I were able to eat was a bar one chocolate that I remembered we'd gotten earlier.

No dinner for us last night. It only came back 2 hours later. We were asleep. - Elizabeth

Worst experience happened once where I was out one night then came home to quite simply no power (load shedding). The only way I could hope to get in my home was through the garage.

Well the garage doors are only activated through a remote and with no power the remote could not activate the doors to open. It was too late to go back out as most places were closed. I had to sleep in the car that night - thanks to load shedding! - P. Golis

We have two stories regarding load shedding. The first one was not so cool. The lights went out during bath time for my three boys, and they all started screaming together, in the dark! We then proceeded to light a candle (before the days where I banished them from the house) and my 18month old child went behind my back to investigate this bright object - ending with the candle falling over, and hot wax spilling onto his face, close to his eye.

Miraculously, I was able to wipe the wax away quickly, even in the dark, and he only had a small burn, it never burnt his eye, phew! Hence, we have banished candles from the house! One funny -my kids like to take turns donning my sunglasses, and then yelling…POWERCUT!! - Lynnith
