Why being single in winter is not as bad as it seems

One benefit is the ‘sniff syndrome’. I’d like to think you’re less likely to get the ‘flu if you’re single. Not only have you avoided the possibility of kissing someone who has the sniffles, but you’re unlikely to be a nursemaid for a needy sick person, who has somehow ‘lost’ their ability to do just about anything other than complain.

What’s great about being single in winter is the added bonus of not needing to be dressed to the nines when it’s 16ºC outside and in. It’s not easy to find the perfect outfit to wear to impress your significant other, when you’re also not keen to turn into a human icicle. So bring on the baggy sweatpants, enveloping raincoats and Ugg boots.

Another great thing, not only in winter, is the little ‘secret single behaviour’ (thanks Sex and the City) we tend to do when we’re alone at home. Whether it’s wearing your pajamas all day, or wearing two layers of socks, or skipping your daily wash in the morning, because it’s too cold to shower.

There are those cold, lonely nights…

Although, one does have those weary days where it’s cold and raining outside, and you just feel like you’ll never ever be loved again… If you are having one of those days, just get out of bed, call your girlfriends and pop open a bottle of red wine.

If your blankets feel empty and cold, get yourself a little fury friend (stuffed or alive) to cuddle and sit with you. Let’s face it, your adorable pets will not only love you unconditionally, but they’ll comfort, listen and not complain to you when you tell them about your long day at the office.

The great thing about being single is having the freedom to do just about ANYTHING. ‘Treat yo’self’, as Tom Haverford from Parks and Recreation would say, by spending some of your hard earned cash by buying some new beanies and coats, or travelling wherever your interest lies, without having a discontented companion with you. It’s all up to you to make the most of the long winter day’s that lie ahead, whether it is catching up on your favourite series or finding a new hobby.

Carpe diem single ladies, now you gotta put you gloves up.
