Johannesburg - The body of an infant was found in a dirt bin along Bothma Street in Honeydew, west of Johannesburg, on Monday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said a homeless woman searching inside the bin alerted security guards to the infant.

"When paramedics inspected the container they found an infant, no older than one month.

"The baby was declared dead when no signs of life were evident."
