US Airways tweets very NSFW image, apologises

Cape Town - Whoever’s in charge of social media at US Airways must be in big trouble, after a post containing a pornographic image appeared in the airline’s Twitter stream on Monday.

Sydney Morning Herald reports that the airline acknowledged that the image of a woman with a toy plane in her vagina came from its Twitter account, but said it was sent by mistake.

Although it was quickly removed and the airline apologised for their mistake, the image has appeared across the internet as a screen grab. US Airways has more than 424 000 followers on Twitter.

The airline said in a statement that the image was inadvertently included in a response to a customer and that they immediately realised the error and removed it.

The tweet that included the image was directed at a Twitter user with the handle @ellerafter in response to her complaint about a delayed flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina to Portland International Airport in Oregon.

Elle responded to the US Airways tweets with the following:

Other responses to the tweet ranged from highly amused to absolutely livid. Here are a few:

This hilarious twitter saga comes just a day after a young girl had a semi-meltdown when American Airlines responded to her faux terrorism threat with a threat of their own.
