5 Golden Globe winners that we didn't see coming

accreditation

Warning: If you are waiting to watch the Golden Globes tonight to see the winners DO NOT read further.

Now for those of you who woke up at 3 am to watch the show live or surfed the internet and social media you already know who the lucky winners were.

While there are always some questionable nominations and winners (The Hollywood Foreign Press seem to love Meryl Streep a little too much) this year globes produced some truly surprising winners.

1.       How to train your Dragon 2 wins Best Animation

It is very rare that a sequel does better than its predecessor; it is even rarer that it wins a Golden Globe, especially when the first film didn’t win! Just goes to show, not all sequels are bad.

2.       Gina Rodriguez wins best actress in a TV series

Nobody was more surprised about this win than Rodriguez herself! The adorable actress from the show Jane the Virgin was a surprise nomination to begin with,  but we couldn't be happier for her win. Jane the Virgin is hilarious.

3.       Joanne Froggatt wins best supporting actress

While everyone loves Downton Abbey, (it’s so weirdly addictive!) and can’t get enough of  the always sweet ladies maid Anna, played by  Joanne Froggat, no one thought she would be the one walking away with the Golden Globe last night! Go Joanne!

4.       Boyhood takes top honours

Following the success of 12 Years a Slave, it seemed like Selma was going to win best motion picture. Maybe the Hollywood Foreign Press changed their minds after President Obama said that Boyhood was his favourite film?

5.       The Grand Budapest Hotel beats Birdman

This is perhaps the biggest upset of the night. While both films are ridiculously good (seriously though, they are amazing) Birdman was everyone’s favourite to win best comedy or musical. Guess  even expert predictors aren’t truly psychic when it comes to award winners.
