Joan Rivers, the comedienne, TV host, and author, passed away on 4 September, according to Channel24. She had been hospitalised the week before, after going into cardiac arrest at a doctor’s office, in Manhattan during a routine procedure.
While Joan was known for her quick wit, acid tongue, and often controversial comments (especially when it came to badly dressed celebrities on the red carpet). Yet, what some often failed to mention was that she was a trailblazer for women in comedy. Back in the ‘60s, late night television was a male-dominated world, seeming impenetrable to women, until Joan appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1965 says Huffington Post. And the rest, as they say, is history.
While I loved Joan’s comedy, I didn’t always agree with it. Yet, you have to admit that for someone willing to poke fun at themselves after going through the tragedy of a husband’s suicide, developing bulimia, and then contemplating suicide herself is pretty damn impressive.
Joan also wrote 12 books during her life and in her 2012 best seller, I Hate Everyone...Starting with Me, she said, according to Gossip Cop, that she wanted her funeral to be “Hollywood all the way”.
A fan tweeted a screenshot of an excerpt from the book:
I hope Joan's funeral requests are honored because that would be absolutely, positively fabulous. Just like her. pic.twitter.com/rq4pbMMJKb
