Reneé Zellweger fired because of her new face?

So, we all know about Reneé Zellweger’s drastic new look (if you don’t, where have you been?!), and she doesn’t really look like the Reneé we all know and love anymore. But the star is happy. She told People that she’s “glad” people think she looks different, because she’s changed her life and she feels more fulfilled.

Which is great, right? I’m glad she’s found her happy place, even if that happy place comes with a change in appearance. Good for her. It’s no one else’s business, really.

We can all comment on it as much as we like, but she’s got to do whatever makes her feel good about herself, and apparently she has.

So, I was rather perturbed when I read the rumours that she might be replaced in the next Bridget Jones movie. According to The Mirror, Reneé could be replaced by fellow American actress, Reese Witherspoon, as producers of the film are afraid she doesn’t look like Bridget anymore.

Hello?!

So replacing someone who doesn’t look like they did 10 years ago with another actress who looks nothing like them makes any sense? Not in my book.

If you’ve read Mad About The Boy, Helen Fielding’s third novel in the Bridget Jones series, you’ll know that Bridget is 51 in the novel (trying to deal with being a mom, Twitter and getting older). So she’s bound to look different from when we last heard from her TWENTY YEARS BEFORE.

It makes no sense to me. And, yes, this is just a rumour. The movie, which has been dubbed Bridget Jones’s Baby, is apparently “in development” according to its IMDB page, so we don’t even know if the film will actually come to fruition.

Yet, it still bothers me that the actress who is most famous for being the world’s most unlucky-in-love, see-through-skirt-wearing, chain-smoking Brit, will be replaced because she’s decided to do something that makes her happy.
