A long-standing rule about visible tattoos is the reason why Kelly Davids, Altina Vries and Aseza Matanzima are no longer in the running for the title of Miss South Africa 2015.
According to EWN, former Miss SA, Claudia Henkel, says the women’s tattoos only came to their attention last week when the contestants were clad in bathing suits.
The organisers have also since announced three new additions to the ranks. Kirsten Hornby, 24, of Ruimsig, Roodepoort, Gauteng; Ntsiki Mkhize, 23, of Kliprivier, Midvaal, Gauteng and Tegan Goldman, 22, of Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape will now compete for the crown in March next year.
When told that she had made the Top 24, Kirsten, who works full-time in the fight against human trafficking, said it was “the most surprising call of my life. I had completely closed off the idea of ever getting in. I feel incredibly blessed to be here and plan not to take this opportunity for granted.”
Both Ntsiki, who had entered the Miss South Africa pageant before; and Tegan said they were delighted to be part of the Miss South Africa event.
The Top 10 will be announced in early February and the televised crowning will take place at Sun City on 29 March 2015.
