A best friend is a wonderful thing to have.
That one person (although some of us are lucky enough to have more) who just gets you. Someone who you can laugh and cry with.
Although, sometimes friendships get neglected, which is sad, but it happens.
So when you finally make a little time for each other, it’s quite awesome.
And, thus, the first stage starts:
Overly-energised anticipation
Basically, you. Cannot. Wait. You’re counting down the days until you meet up and they just seem to go by so very slowly.

Then, the day of your friend date finally arrives. You get there, see each other, and you feel...
Extreme excitement
Now, for some of you, this means lots of screaming and hugging and a little crying. For others, like me, it means nearly tackling the other person and hugging them so hard they nearly pass out.

This is followed by...
"I can't believe you're here"
You've waited so long for this moment that it feels surreal. Your bestest best friend is actually right in front of you and you can actually touch them. You have to nearly pinch yourself to believe it.

And once you get over the initial excitement and calm the hell down, you look at each other properly and:
Check each other out
"Your haircut is AMAZING" "Have you lost weight?" "That dress looks so good on you" or, depending on the relationship, "that eyeshadow is awful. Take it off" "why does your hair look so weird?" "Come here, let me put some eyeliner on you"

And once you get over yourselves, you get to the best bit
Catching up
You begin with the inevitable "so, how ARE you?" And move onto talking about everything from work to boyfriends/flings/crushes. But you forget bits of all your stories in the excitement and constantly have to back track.

And, of course, you’ll need
Beverages
You're going to need something to wet your whistle between all that talking. My best friend and I usually go for wine, or any form of alcohol really, but sometimes a nice cup of tea works too.

This also is inevitably followed by the words
"Remember the time..."
You begin to giggle about things you've done in your past, or when someone you both really don’t like did something embarrassing and totally deserved it.

After which you have the...
Serious talk
You either talk about news/major events and themes that you're both interested in, or one of you needs advice from the other and you go into extreme detail about your issues.

But, unfortunately, you eventually have to
Say goodbye
And you’re really sad because it was so much fun, but then you remember you can do this all again. YAY!
