2. Organise a family sing-song. Better still, organise carols at home, including old favourites and new ones you all like.
3. Create a stunning centre-piece for the Christmas table using flowers, candles and dried fruit or nuts.
4. Get help. Have everyone in the family help you decorate the tree, and let the children make decorations like paper angels and stars to hang on it.
5. Read a Christmas story to your kids. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is always a favourite!
6. Go on a family outing. Take the family to one of the Christmas pantomimes which are staged at this time of year.
7. Be traditional. Make or buy traditional festive treats like gingerbread and mince pies.
8. Make your own Christmas wreath. Traditionally, this is made of green leaves with red berries or flowers, but you can always create an African variation!
9. Hang or display the Christmas cards you receive in the living room, near the tree, and make your own cards this year rather than buying them. The personal touch always makes a wonderful difference!
10. Make up small, but creative Christmas packages. Use bright wrapping to thank the people you see every day and who help you in different ways – the security guard in your street or building, the cleaning lady in your office, etc. Fill the packages with things like chocolates, pastries and nuts.
