Happiness is...

accreditation
Happiness seems like the one thing in life that we are all in pursuit of and yet only a few can honestly say they have found it.

We hope that we will wake up one morning and magically be as happy as larks.

We live in a world where society has set an impossible standard for everything. We need to have the fancy car, phone, house and designer clothing to be happy.

We set our bars so high because we want to compete with person X. Because when we look at him/her they seem so happy.

We believe happiness is in certain things: material possessions, success, wealth and money. Society tries to portray these things as the path to “perfect” happiness.

What if happiness is not something we need to chase? What if it’s already within us

Perhaps the secret to unlocking this happiness is in identifying the simple things and accepting them.

Happiness to me, is accepting that nothing lasts forever.

The only thing I know for sure, is that I will die. Nothing is rock-solid, from relationships, to a job, to everything around me. I know that anything can happen at any time. People close to you can die in the blink of an eye, I could lose my job tomorrow, and the person who says they love me today can stop loving me tomorrow.

What’s important to me, is showing appreciation, cherishing and being grateful to the people in my life, my livelihood, everything around me and being thankful for all that I have. This is my state of happiness.

Happiness to me, is also realising that some things are just not worth the sweat.

This has been the hardest for me to accept because not everyone is going to like me or get along with me. Not everyone is going to see things my way. Not everyone is going to like my personality or character and not everyone is going to like my neat-freak habits. I don’t have to please every Tom, Dick, and their dog.

Does it really matter what he or she thinks of you? If someone doesn’t like who you are, or how you talk or what you serve, then why get yourself into a knot over it. Let it go.

Happiness is about less pretense and more originality

You are who and what you are. Stop pretending you’re something you’re not because this will definitely fire up your unhappiness to catastrophic proportions.

When family and friends know you well, they can sniff out when you are being false. Stop pretending to be someone you are not to win over other people. A 'what you see is what you get' attitude will make you less pretentious.

Happiness is saying you are sorry and meaning it.
If you did or said something wrong, accept your part, own it and apologise. -It can be as simple as that.
Even if the other person is arrogant and is on an ego trip, it’s not your problem. Say what you mean and mean what you say, you will sleep better at night.

Happiness is not letting your imagination run away with you.
Another hard lesson to learn in life, is that we tend to make assumptions of every situation and scenario. ‘What if’s’ are a bummer? Sometimes we think we messed up big time  but in reality, it’s not so bad, and what we imagined is far worse than reality.

Happiness is just being.
Life would not be the same if everything was smooth sailing. Happiness is the result of being loving and compassionate with ourselves and with others. Taking care of how we treat others, how  we speak to others and most importantly, taking loving care of our own feelings and needs.

Happiness is being in gratitude for what you are.

Most importantly, the sacred privilege of being afforded this chance for your soul to occupy this body. You have a purpose and that’s why you are still here, so focus on all you have right now and less on what you don't have.

If we believe that happiness comes from external 'things”, you will forever be in pursuit of it and it will forever elude you.

If you gauge your happiness based on people, things, events and outcomes, you will be wasting precious time.

Happiness is not something that happens TO you but something that happens INSIDE you.
