The Gumtree Extreme ReFresh

accreditation

DJ Fresh is partnering with Gumtree, South Africa’s largest online classifieds for the Gumtree Extreme ReFresh, a restoration project of a charitable nature.

The Gumtree Extreme ReFresh will see the famed local DJ spearhead the renovation and refurbishment of Little Pina Pina – a day-care centre located in Soweto – using donations made on Gumtree by Gauteng residents.

On Tuesday 19 August, DJ Fresh and the Gumtree Extreme ReFresh team visited the centre to see the work to be done and meet with Lorraine Mnyandu, Little Pina Pina’s Principal.

During the ReFresh, the Big Dawg will call on the people of Gauteng to clear out their garages and donate items on Little Pina Pina’s wish list by visiting the Gumtree reFresh website and following the simple steps to post an ad to donate an item.

To make the process even easier, if the donated item is needed for the ReFresh, Gumtree will arrange for it to be collected directly from the donator and delivered to Little Pina Pina.

The ReFresh team will travel around the province to perform the collections, ticking off items on the wish list (think toys, furniture, electronics and appliances) as they go.

In addition to calling for items to be donated, DJ Fresh and the Gumtree Extreme ReFresh team are also asking Gauteng-based service providers and small businesses to volunteer their time and skills to help renovate the run-down facility.

Little Pina Pina is in need of a new lick of paint, brand new vinyl flooring, artificial grass, re-plumbing, electrical wiring and numerous other things to create a safe and secure environment for young children to learn and play.

To get involved in the Gumtree Extreme ReFresh, Gauteng residents should visit the website to make a donation for an item or service.

Simply click "Donate Now", select Location (Gauteng), select Category (Charity Donations) and add #ReFresh to the title of the ad!

The Gumtree Extreme ReFresh team will get in touch with donators to let them know if their items or services are needed for the ReFresh of Little Pina Pina, which, after its ReFresh, will be unveiled by DJ Fresh on Wednesday 10 September.

About Little Pina Pina Educare Centre:

Little Pina Pina Educare Centre – a day-care centre located in Orlando East, Soweto – has been run by Lorraine Mnyandu since 1997 when Ms Mnyandu opened the centre.

Each day, over 60 young children aged 2 – 5 attend Little Pina Pina where Ms Mnyandu and her staff cater, nurture and provide an early childhood development programme (including mental, physical, cognitive and social development) to the students.

The children of Little Pina Pina come from economically disadvantaged families facing unemployment, poverty and poor health and housing conditions.

Ms Mnyandu and the staff of Little Pina Pina are dedicated to providing a supportive, stimulating and safe environment for the young children of this community in the belief that early childhood development can have significant long-term effects.
