Read: Top 5 dangerous diets
According to the BBC 21-year-old student, Ella Parry, died after taking diet pills that she bought on the internet. These pills contain a dangerous chemical, dinitrophenol or DNP and even 2 tablets are enough to kill you.
There is no antidote.
As reported in the Daily Mail Parry died in hospital, “burning up from the inside” as the drug caused her metabolism to skyrocket.
More than 63 people have died from this readily available drug. The pills are marketed as fat burners, but act more like explosives in the body. Even though it usually has warnings on the bottles, people tend to ignore these in the desperate attempt to lose weight.
No one thinks a couple of tablets can actually kill them. Sadly this is untrue.
And the truly scary thing is that people continue taking these tablets even when they are aware of the risks. Dying to be skinny – quite literally.
Weight loss is something that should be managed through diet and a healthy lifestyle. There are no miracle cures. If there was an easy, safe way to lose weight fast, EVERYONE WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT.
Think about it – the whole world would be abuzz with the news. So unless your diet pill is the cover story of every major newspaper and magazine worldwide, you should know – you’re being swindled.
And you could die from taking it.
