4 bad habits we seriously need to change

accreditation
1)    Skipping breakfast: Everyone knows the old saying “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” so, then why is it that so many of us are guilty of this deadly sin? Many would say it’s because they don’t have time and understandably so. Wake-up, get the kids to school, get to the office, and check e-mails. Oops, there was no time for breakfast.  This may not seem like a huge deal but women do not realise the damage that they are doing by not getting their morning goodness.  No breakfast results in low-sugar levels which will eventually result in lack of energy. See where we’re going with this? So, help yourself by eating breakfast. Also, skipping breakfast will mean that you’re going to be hungry sooner rather than later which heightens the chances of indulging in an unhealthy snack.

2)    Biting your nails:  kids aren’t the only ones who are guilty of this unhealthy habit. Many adults do it too, especially when they’re nervous. Our finger nails are there for a reason (other than being snacked on when there’s no stress ball in reach) We need our finger nails for everyday activities like picking up things but unfortunately some of those things they pick up are germs.  You wouldn’t lick a toilet seat, so why would you bite your nails? By biting your nails you are exposing yourself to so many germs. Should you get a bit carried away while nibbling on your nails, you could tear or rip the skin around your fingers, exposing yourself to more germs which could lead to infection.  If you’re having trouble stopping this awful habit, try getting your nails done. You wouldn’t want to ruin your new, pretty manicured nails and you’ll have gorgeous nails to wave goodbye to your unhealthy habit with.

3)    Chewing gum:  We’re not saying that you should throw out your gum and boycott all gum on the market. There is nothing wrong with chewing gum, there are in fact benefits of taking the odd chomp but when you’re constantly chewing away like a cow with cud is when it gets dangerous. Chewing too often can cause jaw problems because constant chewing damages the cartilage which protects the jaw. This could result in irreparable discomfort and pain.  Chewing can also cause muscles to tighten, which can lead to headaches and do not forget that many gums are sweetened which isn’t beneficial for your health either.

4)    Washing your hands: ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ but overkill can kill you. It’s important to wash your hands regularly and when needed but do not go overboard. Washing your hands too often can dry out the skin and rid your hands of its natural oils.  It can also lead to cuts and tears which leaves your body exposed to infection. Remember that not all germs are bad germs and that there are some good bacteria on our body which help fight off the bad ones which make us sick. If you are washing your hands unnecessarily you might kill the good bacteria.  A little bit of exposure to germs never killed anyone; it only makes your immune system stronger so relax.
