According to Twitter trends, there is a whole army of misogynists who deem Marion unsuitable to win in her given sport because she “looks like she’s a cross between a man and an ape.”
This is not all.
The stream reveals disgusting comments all related to her unattractiveness, weight and even her ethnicity.
Apparently, you need to be a tall skinny model-like blonde to win the Wimbleton because screw talent – all you need to be is a gorgeous sandwich-maker.
I can’t even describe how appalled by this I am. You would assume that as a society we have moved on from the suppression of women. To witness this kind of behaviour scares me, it’s a big pill to swallow when you realise that people can be this shallow and sexist.
Maybe they felt that hiding behind a cyber-guise allowed them to be more crass and honest about how they feel?
But, if this kind of thing is what really reflects their true feelings, we have not evolved much from the pre-historic human. Heck, you would think with all the proverbial doors women have kicked open in the past decade alone that there would no longer be such blatant ignorance displayed on such a public platforms.
Tsk, tsk, tsk...
I guess us ‘femanazi’s’ have to burn our bras’s again. Damn.
