It seems like only yesterday that Michelle Yeoh stood in front of a star-studded crowd at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre and pledged to take her Oscar home to her mom in Malaysia.
"I want to dedicate this to my mom and all the moms in the world because they’re our superheroes and without them we all wouldn’t be here tonight,” she said, accepting the best actress gong.
"I’m taking this home to her."
The Everything Everywhere All at Once star has lived up to her promise and shared some snaps of her trip home.
In one picture, her 85-year-old mom, Janet Yeoh, is seen proudly cradling the statuette.
In another, Michelle is seen visiting the grave of her father, Datuk Yeoh Kian Teik, who died in 2014 at the age of 89.
Her visit to the grave was part of a sacred Chinese tradition where ancestors are remembered and honoured.
"Brought Mr O [Oscar] home, without my parents' love and trust and support I wouldn’t be here today," she captioned the photos.
She's famously close with her mother.
Michelle (60) admits that her mom still treats her like a little girl sometimes and she must remind her that she’s 'old now'," she says.
Her mom even helped her prepare for the Oscars.
"She just called me and said, 'If you’re going to the Oscars, you mustn't wear pants'," she said, mimicking her mother’s voice.
The actress made history when she became the first Asian woman to win an Oscar earlier this year, and her mother celebrated this achievement even though they were oceans apart.
"I’m very excited. I’m proud of my daughter,” Janet said at a live viewing party in Malaysia. "I love my daughter, she's a hardworking girl."
Although her father wasn't there to toast her success, Michelle cherishes the memories of him.
"He taught us to be individuals, to believe in ourselves and if we make mistakes, we should learn from them," she said in a previous interview.
"I hope whatever I've have done, and continue to do, I'll always make him proud."
Her visit to the east included a trip to Hong Kong where she met and partied with actors and filmmakers who helped establish her career.
"It was an amazing night to celebrate and share my joy with those who gave me a leg up in HK," she said.
