The socialite has made more startling confessions about her personal life, revealing how she was physically, verbally and emotionally abused by five of her boyfriends.
Paris spoke candidly to People ahead of the release of her new documentary, This Is Paris, which premieres on YouTube on September 14th – shedding light on her personal life.
The 39-year-old says the trauma she suffered as a teen conditioned her to believe that abusive behaviour was "normal" and negatively affected her future dating life.
“I went through multiple abusive relationships,” she says. “I was strangled, I was hit, I was grabbed aggressively. I put up with things no one should.”
“I had become so used to abusive behaviour at school, that it made me feel like it was normal.
“They all seemed like such nice guys and then the true colours would show,” she says of five of her ex-boyfriends.
“They’d get jealous or defensive or try to control me. And there would come a point where they would become physically, verbally and emotionally abusive.
“I didn’t really understand what love or relationships were. I thought that them getting so crazy meant that they were in love with me. Looking back, I can’t believe I let people treat me like that.”
Paris
believes that she wouldn’t have made her infamous 2003 leaked sex tape had she
not suffered the abuse in school.
“I would never have let anyone into my life like the man in the tape, whom she was dating at the time.
“I met the worst person I could meet and if I hadn’t gone to the school, I wouldn’t have entertained the thought of letting him into my life. The school affected my future relationships.”
Paris had also previously spoken to People about the abuse she endured after he parents shipped her off to boarding school, revealing: “From the moment I woke up until I went to bed, it was all day screaming in my face, yelling at me, continuous torture,” she said.
“The staff would say terrible things. They were constantly making me feel bad about myself and bullying me. I think it was their goal to break us down.”
But after burying the trauma for so long, she’s finally ready to be open with the world about what she was forced to endure.
“I
buried my truth for so long, but I’m proud of the strong woman I’ve become.
People might assume everything in my life came easy to me, but I want to show
the world who I truly am,” she told People.
Paris has reportedly been in a healthy and happy relationship with 39-year-old entrepreneur Carter Reum, for nine months. She says her boyfriend is her reason "for being so happy".
"I feel so safe with him," she says. "Before, I don't think I was really ready for a good relationship. But I've learned so much. And I'm so grateful to have found my perfect match."
In a sweet post on Instagram celebrating their anniversary she wrote: "When we first met, I had no idea of the amazing journey I was about to embark on.
"My life was always empty, like I was missing something. But when I met you, I knew you were the one. You've filled my heart with so much love.
"I believe that everything happens for a reason because everything in my life, all the good and the bad, has led me right to you.”
