The aroma of fermenting grapes wafts in the cool air of Bonnievale in the Breede River Valley, a popular holiday destination and one of South Africa’s major wine and fruit producing areas.
But there are few holidaymakers hanging around these parts these days – in fact, few people linger here at all.
And for good reason. There are crocodiles on the loose and they could be anywhere in town, or in the river that meanders through the lush valleys and fertile farmlands.
