As a mother of three, the Duchess of Cambridge is certainly used to the strange sorts of questions children are often inclined to ask.
So she took it in her stride when, during her and Prince William’s tour of Scotland on Tuesday, a young boy pointed at her and asked, “Are you the prince?”
The ever-gracious royal smiled and replied with, “No, I’m not the prince, I’m the Duchess of Cambridge. Lots of people call me Catherine.”
Moving down the row of excited children who’d come out to see them, the 39-year-old then asked one little girl, “Are you a princess?” When the shy youngster looked down and said “no”, Kate said, ‘Well you look like one in your beautiful pink coat’.”
The couple certainly looked to be in their element on their day out in Orkney where they opened a hospital and visited the European Marine Energy Centre earlier.
Kate looked casually chic in a pair of brown lace-up Chloe boots, skinny jeans and a Seeland hunting jacket.
On Monday, the pair visited Heavy Sound CIC, a Scottish community group that provides music, creative arts and sports activities in underprivileged areas – and the duchess hilariously proved that DJing is not among her finer skills.
After attempting some sound mixing, she laughed and covered her ears as William pleaded, “Please turn that off, it’s hurting my ears!”
As they left, Kate quipped, “Sorry for leaving such a terrible song. Delete it, delete it!”
And up went her popularity ratings again.
