Egypt says no proof yet of bomb on Russian plane

Cairo - A top official in Egypt's Aviation Ministry says the Egyptian-led international committee investigating the crash of a Russian passenger jet in Sinai has not found any proof of a bomb on board.

"So far the committee has not found any evidence confirming the hypothesis that the plane exploded as a result of terrorist action," the official says on condition of anonymity.

Russian investigators took sand samples from the crash site and recovered victims' bodies, but have not officially informed the investigation committee of their conclusions, the official says.

"We are awaiting clarification from the Russian authorities and a study of the evidence they found," he says, "even though the official investigating committee has not reached these conclusions."
