WATCH: Al Shabaab claims responsibility for Nairobi hotel attack; injured being evacuated
The Somalia-based extremist group al-Shabab is claiming responsibility for the attack on an upscale hotel complex in Nairobi and says its members are still fighting inside.
The al-Qaeda-linked group issued the claim via its radio arm, Andalus.
There were initial reports of possibly two blasts and heavy gunfire.
Witnesses and police at the scene are calling it a terror attack.

Suspected jihadists kill 12 in northern Mozambique
Suspected jihadist fighters have killed 12 people in northern Mozambique as they shift attacks to vehicles despite increased army patrols on main roads.
Most of the victims died in attacks on cars and buses in the gas-rich, Muslim-majority Cabo Delgado region where Islamist militants have terrorised villagers in remote communities for more than a year.
The murders mark a shift in strategy that had previously targeted isolated homes.

Deaths in Zimbabwe fuel protests, says security minister
Violent protests that erupted in Zimbabwe on Monday after the government more than doubled fuel pump prices have claimed lives, the country's national security minister said, without specifying the numbers killed.
Accusing the opposition and civil society organisations of being behind the protests, Owen Ncube said in a statement that "regrettably, this has resulted in the loss of life and property including injury to police officers and members of the public.

Gabon's ailing president returns for government swearing-in
Gabon's President Ali Bongo Ondimba, who has been out of the country for health reasons since October, has returned for the swearing-in of his new government.
Bongo's return comes a week after an attempted coup by officers with the Republican Guard. Two of the plotters were killed and four others were arrested and face life sentences, authorities have said.
Local media said Bongo arrived overnight from Morocco, where he had been recovering from a reported stroke he suffered in Saudi Arabia. The government has said little about his condition.

Military deploys in Zimbabwe fuel hike protests, 5 killed
A Zimbabwean military helicopter on Tuesday fired tear gas at demonstrators blocking a road and burning tires in the capital on a second day of deadly protests after the government more than doubled the price of fuel in the economically shattered country.
Soldiers moved in to disperse crowds at the busy intersection and transport hub in Harare amid Zimbabwe's biggest unrest since deadly post-election violence in August. Witnesses also reported violence in the eastern city of Mutare, where people attacked passenger buses and destroyed some shops.
