Thousands of people rallied in Tunis on Monday evening in support of the announcement made by Tunisia's president Beji Caid Essebsi to submit a draft bill to parliament equalising inheritance rights between men and women.
The proposal to equalise inheritance has been among the most hotly debated of a raft of proposed social reforms.
Many Muslim-majority country's laws still stipulates that male heirs should receive double the assets given to females of the same level of kinship.
Tunisian society still remains very divided as thousands opposing any changes to inheritance rules demonstrated on Saturday in front of parliament.
