THE Right2Know campaign under KwaZulu-Natal branch has supported the rejects of SANRAL’s proposed e-tolls in Western Cape by carrying banners at City Hall demanding the truth behind millions that are spent.
Campaign aims to educate people about what is happening in the society, they believe that everyone has a right to access to information, and also encouraging society to express themselves including opinion.
R2K KZN Spokesperson and Organizer Joanne Adams said that people must know and understand the effect these e-tolls will make.
“We as campaign decided to support the Western Cape from getting these e-tolls. We are here today to try and alert people that if it Western Cape today, KZN tomorrow,” said Adams.
She added that e-tolling will have serious effects, especially the poorest of the poor. This matter can’t be dealt with in secret.
“People of the Western Cape need to stay vigilant and ensure that e-tolling does not slip under our noses like it did in Gauteng,” she said.
Their request is to know how much will be spent on e-tolling upgrades, how much it would affect ordinary people, and which companies are getting rich from e-tolling. “The public has a right to know.”
Xolani Khumalo who owns a car saw the good support by this campaign and he said as citizens they should fight for what they don’t want, government has filed people. “We pay for toll-gates as well, what e-tolls are for.”
