As much as branch nominations care showing Cde Cyril Ramaphosa as the front runner in the ANC presidential candidate race, it ain't over until the fat lady sings. Well, the fat lady hasn't sung yet; she's only rehearsing.
We saw the devasting effect it had on people's emotions when Hillary Clinton of the USA lost the presidential race after everyone were over confident that she had the presidency in the bag. All the preliminary numbers and factors showed in Clinton's favour until elections day. The morning after felt like someone was playing an April's fool prank on the whole world.
People hated Donald Trump, while mostly because of his own mouth, one can't overlook the effect of over-confidence denied. Trump never got over the hate. I think even the Republicans couldn't remember the last time they were so scary divided. Just for the record, I was in the Hillary cheering squad.
CR17 anything is still possible, and it doesn't take a miracle for the votes to swing any which way on voting day, only some still outstanding unaccounted for nominations. So, leave room for disappointment so that sanity prevail to accept a (possible) loss with grace and ensure an even stronger, united, unfragmented ANC, free of disgruntled break-away groups. Afterall, it is one ANC, so NDZ must be respected and supported if she emerges the (surprise) winner and likewise CR must be respected and supported should he emerge as the winner.
Who knows, we may be gladly surprised and get Lindiwe Sisulu as a unity winner. Any which way, let's not rely too much on the current figures and be over confident about Cde Cyril's position.
