Matric results in less than a month - what happens after matric?
The matric results for the 2017 matric class will be available to students at their schools, in the newspapers and online, on 5 January 2018.
The National Senior Certificate results are officially released by the Minister on 4 January 2018.
The Independant Examination Board (IEB) Exam results will be available on 3 January 2018.
What if you pass?
If you pass with marks that are good enough, and you applied to university or college, then you are most likely on your way to further studies in 2018. Congratulations!
If you did not get a place in one of our universities or colleges, then you can start looking for alternative places to study. There are many private colleges and higher education institutions where you can still apply.
You Passed, but you are not happy with your marks
You can apply for a re-mark. Once you have your marks, there won't be a lot of time to apply for a re-mark. So if you choose to ask for a re-mark, then do it as soon as you have your results.
Sit for a supplementary exam. In February and March 2018 there will be “second chance” exams for students who want to improve their results.
Re-do your year. If you did really badly, you are better off to re-do your year. Spending an extra year at school might feel like a lot of time now. But when you look back in ten year's time, you will be happy you spent the extra time to get the best results.
You failed
Go back to school. Ask your principal very nicely and try your best to go back to school. Yes, it will hurt. But this will be one of the smartest things you can do in your life. Spend the time, an get the marks you need!
