Waiting in vain for Cyril to put the nation first

I’m not sure what I was waiting for. Maybe it was for Cyril to grow a back bone along with some brass and put some real meaning to the words he has been sprouting with such consummate ease since Saturday. I mean there he was telling the world how he was going to make sure all us long suffering, ever patient, super resilient, even- if- we- didn’t- vote- for- ANC South Africans we’re going to be better off after May 8.

So, I went to the polls. I stood in the cold and the odd rain shower for two hours. Up until that crucial moment before I made my cross I was going to vote ANC on the national ballot. I had devised and sold my little plan to all that was prepared to listen how I was going to split my vote to make sure Julius and his bunch of red devotees were kept at bay. Alas, at the very last second, I had a moment of conscience and went with the devil I knew and voted for Mmusi. Fat lot of good that did. There will be less blue in parliament thanks to Aunty Pat.

Since then I’ve been following all the news channels and listening to endless analysis by so-called analysts hoping they would console me. There was very little comfort. Instead I figured the best way out was to wait. Maybe, just maybe Cyril would have a brain fart of note and truly stand up to the likes of Ace, Jacob, Aunty Jessie and others. I was kinda hoping that we would not again be saddled with Malusi and “whisky girl” Bathabile. I was wrong. Tina Joemat-Pettersson, she who sold our fuel reserves is on the list. Collen “Orosman” Maine is on the list. Eish mahn. How is the Chief Justice going to get these people to put their hands on a bible and call on them to make an oath to be “ethical ministers” when they have proven themselves to be beyond the opposite?

If this is what Cyril meant when he said to the world there is “no place for corrupt officials” someone needs to explain to him what a corrupt official is. I am almost inclined to agree with the many who did not vote. In reality we voted to put these questionable individuals back in control.

And we thought we were “doing the right thing”.

The only conclusion I can come to is that Cyril is not in this for the people. He is in this for fame and fortune and is going to make sure his ass does not turn to grass. He is going to sell the country down the river and hope the thieves in his cabinet stick with him for the full five years. Problem is, when can you trust a thief? Can people like Malusi and Bathabile be rehabilitated and can they really have a change of heart and be “good ethical ministers” as per the Chief Justice? My guess is not.

While he may well be trying his absolute best to balance the good ANC with the dark side of the movement, he is failing hopelessly at regaining the confidence of the nation. He holds in his hands the perfect opportunity to clean the house but sadly he is seemingly more concerned about the daggers pointing at his back. What he should be doing in my opinion is turn around and face the daggers and show the country and the world he will not be intimidated by those waiting to dethrone him. The country and the world will be there to support him if they do come for him. One little thing we do have to be thankful for is Jacob’s name is not on the list.

Let me not be too negative. Who knows what may happen? Maybe the fuel price will drop to around R12 to the liter. Maybe the unemployment percentage will drop to under 25%. Maybe there will be mass foreign investment in the next year. Maybe Moody’s will stop being moody and learn to love us again. Maybe there will be justice for the Marikana and the Esidimeni victims. Maybe, just maybe hell won’t freeze over. After all. He has five years. Or does he??? As always, we live in hope. Then again, for all Bosasa money in the world, I would not want to be CR.
