Everything is being done online now that we must adhere to lockdown regulations. Meetings, therapy sessions and “visits” to name a few. The different things that can be done through video calls are increasing.

For those who love being out and socialising with their friends, here are a few games you can play in lockdown (with or without alcohol too).

1.       Charades

You can never go wrong with this classic. Pair up with somebody on the video call and make sure the rules are clear. Video-calling platforms tend to favour those with better connection or louder voices. Once this is done, find a charades app in your app store or have one member from each team write down a list of different categories.

2.       Never Have I Ever

This can be the lockdown version of the game. Have each member of the call put up five or all fingers then go through a list a of questions. For example, “Never have I ever gone a day without washing” or “Never have I ever finished my lockdown snacks within a week”. You can all decide the penalty for the first person to put down all their fingers.

3.       Centre a game around the video call

Make sure to set the rules right after you ask how everyone has been coping during this time. You can either set a time for the call or just let it continue for as long as you want. For those who still have stock, the call could be a “Wine Wednesday-themed” call. When somebody’s dog barks or their screen freezes, they have to drink.

Somebody could create a plot twist at the end of the game and make whoever’s glass is the fullest, down it.

4.       Lip-reading

A very simple, straightforward game. Take turns switching off your microphones and saying a word or a phrase. You can have a specific theme for the game to narrow down the phrases people choose.

5.       Fashion show

For most people, dressing up is a thing of a past. It has been a while since most of us have put on our best clothes for work or for lunch with friends. Have each member of the video call put on their top three looks. Delegate a judge who will also be announcing the event/theme of each round.

6.       Most likely to . . .

This game will be a piece of cake for those who have known one another the longest. Have each person come up with a superlative or find some ideas online. Delegate one person to count to three once the statement has been stated.
