An 11-year-old reportedly killed his grandmother before turning the gun on himself after they’d had a fight about him cleaning his room.
The boy, whose name hasn’t been released, lived with his grandmother, Yvonne Woodward (65), and her husband, Doyle, in Arizona, US, ABC15 reports.
Sergeant Joaquin Enriquez at the Maricopa county sherriff’s office said Yvonne had apparently asked her grandson numerous to clean his room, but he was being stubborn about it.
On Saturday, while the couple, who had custody over their grandson, were watching TV, the boy came up behind them and shot Yvonne in the back of the head with a handgun that belonged to Doyle, Fox 10 reports.
Doyle ran after him but returned to help his wife. Moments later the youngster allegedly shot himself.
Doyle retrieved the gun and phoned emergency services, Mirror reports.
"In the preliminary stages of this investigation there had been no previous signs that the grandson might harm someone or himself and there was no cause for concern prior to this event," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
The investigation continues.
