Man purposely gets himself arrested to avoid marrying his girlfriend

This crook would rather go to jail than marry his lass.

A suspect named Mr Chen from Shanghai in East China revealed to cops that he deliberately stole a speaker so that he could get busted and avoid marrying his girlfriend.

The petty crime committed led to his arrest on the same day, but his confession has amused investigators.

When asked by authorities why he chose to steal, Mr Chen told officers that it was “because my girlfriend wants to marry me, but I don’t want to marry her.”

To which he further added, “I knew I would be caught. I actually wanted to walk away, but I was angry.”

The authorities said Mr Chen chose to steal an item of low value in order to spare the owner a great loss.

The attempted robbery was also to disappoint his girlfriend, who he hoped would then want to break up with him.

Mr Chen remains in custody for the minor offense but isn’t expected to be detained for long.

It’s still unclear whether Mr Chen’s tactic to avoid marrying his girlfriend was successful.
