A man appeared in court after killing his grandmother because she suffered from dementia and he “couldn’t take it anymore”.

Antony Jennings from Ilford, London, in the UK has been accused of slitting the throat of his grandmother Ruby Wilson with a bread knife at her nursing home on 29 November 2017, reports Metro.

Ruby, who suffered from dementia, lived at Forest Place Nursing Home in Essex.

The 94-year-old was found dead in her armchair and Jennings was arrested and detained.

It’s said Antony walked in, signed the visitor’s book and went to have tea with his grandma before killing her, Daily Mail reports.

Prosecutor Stephen Rose told a jury on Monday 24 September what a nurse from Forest Place had recalled from that horrific day.

“A psychiatric nurse felt a tap on her arm. It was Antony saying, ‘I just killed my nan.’ Asked if he was joking, he replied, ‘I’m not joking’.”

The nurse then rushed into Ruby’s room and found her bleeding from the neck.

Anthony was found by police officers pacing up and down saying, “I just can’t take it anymore. She doesn’t know who anyone is. She’s in agony. I killed her. I just cut her throat.”

The 33-year-old’s lawyer presented to the court that Antony suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.

A post-mortem revealed the cause of death was from a wound to the neck.

A 20cm-long, 3cm-wide bread knife with blood on the handle was seized by officers from Antony’s backpack.

He pleaded not guilty to murder but instead pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The trial continues and is expected to take up to three weeks, Meaww reports.
