Mom throws child off high-rise building then jumped to her death

A mom reportedly threw her 5-year-old son off a 20^th floor balcony before jumping to her own death.

Solange Matos (37) and her son Luciano (5) plunged to the death from the 20^th floor balcony of the Brickell City Centre Condominiums in Miami on Monday, February 25, Mirror reports.

Solange was found on the 6^th floor and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The young boy was discovered unresponsive on the same floor and was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Centre, where he later died of his injuries, Metro reports.

The victim's family told local media that there were no signs that the mom was going to kill herself and her son.

Local residents, Patricia Lopez and Roberto Junior, said they are shocked by what had occurred, WSVN reports.

"I waited until this morning, saw the news, and I said, 'Oh, my God,'" Patricia said.

"It's a very sad story for the family and also the people that live here. It's a great building."

"I was a bit surprised. Sad," resident Roberto Junior added.

Police are reportedly investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.
