A mother chained her daughter up to stop her from being killed – after claims that she knowingly infected people with HIV.

The mom of the 26-year-old woman, whose name is not known, was forced to take drastic steps after residents began threatening their safety, according to reports.

The young woman, who’s from Valledupar, in north-eastern Colombia, is already a mother of two and both her children are infected with the virus.

The HIV-positive woman’s mother appeared on national TV claiming that her daughter is mentally ill and was knowingly infecting men in the area.

The desperate mother went to the media as a last-ditch effort to help get her daughter hospitalised for her schizophrenia.

"She suffered from schizophrenia since she was eight years old,” she says.

But instead, things took a turn for the worse, after angry locals threatened to kill her daughter after seeing the mom’s desperate plea on the news.

"What I actually wanted is to hospitalise her because she is aggressive,” says the mom. “But now what they want is to kill her.”

The mother has now taken up extreme measures by chaining up her daughter to stop her from escaping and running into the men who want her dead.

The mother says she regrets putting her daughter in danger by going on air and would never have followed that route if it wasn’t for her neighbour advising her to.

"I wanted her to be helped, that is why I said that she was spreading HIV, but it was not the goal of putting her in danger,” says the worried mom.

Another reason why she chose to chain up her 26-year old daughter was that she feared she might walk around and get aggressive. The young woman had once kicked a man’s car and that’s when angry driver got out and slapped her.

The mother has now reportedly met with health authorities to discuss further steps.
