This university professor is going viral for his kind-hearted gesture.

With midterm exams looming, Wayne Hayer (26) refused to miss his algebra class on Friday 1 March. But his wife, Firda, had errands to run and he couldn’t find a babysitter to look after his five-month-old daughter, Assata, CNN reports.

It was reportedly an important class because they were reviewing content for the upcoming exam.

So, he brought along his baby girl to class to the class at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia in the US.

After Wayne explained his tricky situation, Professor Nathan Alexander offered to hold little Aletta and strapped her to his chest for the duration of the lesson, News Channel 3 reports.

Students have since been posting pictures on social media.

“My professor NATHAN ALEXANDER said, ‘I’ll hold her so you can take good notes.’” one student tweeted.

The post has since been retweeted more than 75 000 times.

“It was this encounter that truly showed me the power and impact HBCUs [historically black colleges and universities] can have for the black community, for this professor to understand that life happens and sometimes there are just no ways around it,” another student posted on Facebook.

The 34-year-old professor, who doesn’t have children of his own, told Atlanta News that it’s important for educators to accommodate their students.

“Teachers do this in their own way every day,” Nathan said. “This is what they do.”
