A Labrador puppy accidentally shot a woman after she stepped on a loaded gun in a car.

Tina Springer (44) from Oklahoma in the US, was riding with Brent Park (79), a patient who she cares for, and his Labrador, Molly, on Thursday 3 October when the incident occurred, The Washington Post reports.

They stopped at a train pass and the oncoming train startled the pup who then wanted to jumped onto the backseat. The folding console in between the two front seats contained a loaded gun and Molly had to jump onto the console to get to the backseat.

The force from her jump reportedly caused the gun to go off, sending a bullet straight into Tina’s left thigh, Metro reports.

Brent called emergency services and told responders what had happened.

“It just went off. We had a dog in here and it stepped on the gun,” he says.

The police officer who was first on the scene reportedly found three shell casings in the vehicle as well as the gun, Daily Mail reports.

Brent also told officers that his gun isn’t usually loaded.

Tina was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
