After a botched medical treatment claimed the life of her husband, Cara Finnegan was so heartbroken it took a toll on her health.
Following the distress of losing her husband, Jamie, last year, the young mom of four decided to sue the Australian hospital where he was treated for nervous shock and a "loss of sex".
Jamie was left brain-damaged after a treatment at Brisbane Hospital went horribly wrong in 2013.
He required around-the-clock care and while his family were hopeful he'd live a full life despite his condition, he died last year.
The family was awarded R100m in damages after his death but the money was placed in a trust fund for his four kids to access when they turn 25, according to the Daily Mail.
Now his widow Cara is suing Queensland Health a hefty R12m for a loss of consortium – or sex – with her high school sweetheart.
But Jamie's mother, Daphne, reckons her son is worth much more.
"If we're talking about conjugal rights he'd be worth about $3m [R30m]. He's an Italian stallion, mate," she said in an interview with A Current Affair.
But jokes aside, Daphne adds that her daughter-in-law has every right to the money.
"She's got to raise those four children by herself," the grandmother says. "She didn't get any money to raise those children.
"Do you think Jamie wants his children living in poverty?"
It seems almost every member of Jamie's family is now seeking compensation for his death.
His brother Wylie claims he's developed an addiction to methamphetamine following Jamie's death, The Sun reports, while another brother, Jayden, has offered to settle for R3.2m.
Jamie's grandmother Daphne-Jill and stepfather Ivan are seeking R808 000 in damages and his mother Daphne expects her daughter Storm to lodge a complaint too.
"I want everybody to claim," she says adamantly. "Because Queensland Health never apologised and never cared. And they continued to hurt Jamie, continued to hurt him or make him suffer."
