A shot in the arm

Young people from Site C and surrounding areas stand a chance at getting quality healthcare after Ward Councillor Mlulami Velem donated a state-of-the-art equipment to the local youth clinic yesterday, Wednesday 16 January.

The equipment, which includes a new bed, a scanner to check for high blood pressure as well as a dressing trolley, was made possible from the ward allocation budget for Ward 87.

Velem said the equipment has cost up to about R50 000, which derived from the local ward councillor funding programme.

Clinic facility manager Nonkosi Ngingi said the new equipment was very welcome, as it is going to make a huge difference to the community of Site C.

“We do need all the equipment we can get in order to service our community because it is also growing every day,” she said.

She said the equipment will raise the standards only found in the private healthcare.

Ngingi said for this kind of service people paid huge sums of money in the private health sector, but clinic will offer them for free, thanks to the donation.

Velem said he had decided to donate to the clinic in order to help improve the lives of locals, and because the clinic was small scale, and did not posses all that was needed for better service delivery.

“The area, however, is big. Our communities, as we all know are, disadvantaged and therefore need all the help they can get, especially because they are growing every day,” he said.

Velem said they are always on the lookout to help where they can, and they will continue doing so.

Virginia Azevedo, health manager, said the standard of the service will rise.
