ANCYL extends gifts for the destitute kids

Learners at iLinge Primary School in Nyanga East were paid a visit by the ANC Youth League last Thursday as part of the 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela Day.

The ANCYL donated 45 books, school bags, shoes to 45 kids in need and those who excel academically.

Fezekisa Makeleni, deputy secretary of the league, said they are planning to adopt the school for future programmes because they have noticed that there are lot more children in need and wish to do more.

“One of things Mandela stood for was the importance of kids staying in school and we just want to ease off the burden,” said Makeleni.

Vuyisile Ninzi, the chairperson of the school governing body, expressed his disbelief at the donations, saying they had never expected such generosity. He said he was grateful.

“This is the first time anything like this has happened to this school and we are so incredibly grateful. There are so many kids with open shoes and this is going to make a huge difference,” he said.

Nomthandazo Mrali, a teacher at the school, said she felt that donations of this kind are important to encourage the kids by giving them a reason to want to get up every morning and come to school and to keep excelling.
