Gospel sensation to enthral audiences

One of Khayelitsha’s newest gospel sensation, Gwen Bottoman, will be recording her debut album at the Way of Life Church in Makhaya this Saturday.

The gifted singer, who for many years chose to play a supporting role to other artists in the province, hopes to put her own name on the map.

“Its God’s timing,” she said, adding that she had for many years battled to record her own album because the timing was not right.

“Because it is God’s time, everything is happening. I am not battling(anymore),” she said.

“Just like in a puzzle, everything is falling into place, I do not have to struggle.”

Gwen B, as she is known in music circles and to fans, will share the podium with her younger brother Sandile Qave, pastor Mfundo Tywaku, Ncedeka Bophe and Siphokazi Oyiyo, who are also gospel artists in their own right.

“I am very excited about everything,” she said. “This is the manifestation of what had been planted in me as a child.”

Gwen B has a strong musical background linked to the Pato family in Gugulethu.

Most of her relatives, including her uncles are involved in the music industry, playing instruments. The uncles have worked with some of the country’s top musicians including Ntando Bangani. So, it is not a surprise that she is also in the music industry.

During the interview, she announced that her lie-up will include a collection of brand new songs that should keep the audience enthralled.

She has also promised the audience a top class performance that would change their lives forever.

“People need to understand that music is a calling, it’s about making a difference to people,” she said.

Gwen B added that despite the seemingly glorious existence of gospel artists, she is fully aware of the challenges them.

However, she believes the answer to some of their challenges lay with musicians. “We need to learn to pick each other up ... We do not need to leave for Gauteng(to make it). Gauteng must come to us and bring us back if needs be. Tickets cost R100. Contact 0738221338 or 0815583882.
