Restoring Soles, an initiative by Cape Peninsula University of Cape Town (CPUT) students, has started a campaign to shod matric girls at Zola Secondary School in Khayelitsha for their year-end Matric Dance.
The campaign is part of a post graduate final practical assignment, in partnership with Her Majesty campaign, which also helps to provide shoes to schoolchildren.
“It was started by the Public Relations students of CPUT and we did it because we know first-hand that there is a need in the community for things such as shoes,” said Nadine Dirks, one of the students involved in the campaign.
So far, the students have connected with other students at CPUT and has received several pairs of shoes.
The campaign will handing over the shoes on 20 September at Zola and there will be keynote speakers who will motivate the kids.
“It has been challenging getting funds and gifts and platters for our guest speakers,” said Dirks.
Shoe donations can be dropped off at CPUT, Roeland Street, Cape Town or contact Nadine at: 078 758 6530.
