Ikasi Soccer School u.12 team came out victorious against Central FC in the Women’s Day Festival hosted by Play Sport 4 Life which took place at Kensignton High School on Thursday 9 August. The final tally was 1-0.
The Ikasi Soccer School (IKS) is made up of 28 girls who make up the u.12 team and the other 28 who make up the u.14 team.
Around 40 other teams took part in the tournament. The teams won their respective features and progressed to the finals, unfortunately loosing 4-0 to the Safa team.
“We are pleased with the exposure and experience gained, and our girls lived up to the task,” said Dumisani Ntsodo, the founder of Ikasi Soccer School.
The school was founded this year as an initiative to close the gap in townships and give kids something to do. Ikasi has partnered up with four primary schools in Khayelitsha: Eluxolweni Primary School, Hopolang Combined School, Kukhanyile Primary School and Lwandle Primary School. They take 14 girls from each school which makes up 56 girls in total, divided into two teams of u.12s and u.14s. Each school practises twice a week after school for an hour.
“The response from parents and teachers has been very good. The girl’s always attend in numbers for practises and matches which is a good sign for us. In April we participated for the first time and won in a match against St. Georges School which was a very proud victory for us,” said Ntsodo.
Ntsodo added that Ikasi could use some assistance with equipment, kit and balls. Call Dumisani on 072 632 0015
