If you are living in the Mitchell’s Plain area and surrounds and are looking to join a running club, the Mitchell’s Plain Titans Athletics Club is the way to go.

Offering a range of services from cross country running to road running and race walking to trial mountain running, the club has the skills to get you to meet your goals and open to all ages from age seven up.

Both able and Disabled runners are welcome and strongly encouraged to join. There are also 10 Athletics South Africa accredited coaches to assist with individual needs.

This month will also see the clubs annual road race, celebrating the streets of Mitchell’s Plain, its culture and vibrancy.

For the past three years, the club has hosted the race in association with the JP21 Foundation.

The JP21 Mitchell’s Plain Titans Race, in its 11th year, the race will take place on Saturday 24 November with 5, 10 and 21.1km races. The races start at Rocklands Sports Complex for the 5km and Glendale High School for the 10 and 21km. Races end at Rocklands Sports Complex.

Entries range from R20 to R90 dependent on category and and distance. This is a league race. Members of the club will be assisted by members of Khayelitsha AC in marshalling the event.

Should you want to join the Titans on a more long term basis, a joining fee per annum of R130 and WPA ASA club license is R140 but for the remaining two months of this year, you can join at just R20 with an ASA license at just R70 to register for 2018.

Starters club trainings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:00 at Glendale High and Westridge Gardens respectively.

The JP21 Mitchell’s Plain Titans race is set to once again take the streets by storm as it returns next month. “Our goal is to attract 3000 runners to this year’s race,” says Jamaine Cloete, project manager for the JP21 Foundation.

“Each year we look to improve the overall experience for the runners, improving safety controls, improving parking services, [having a] more efficient registration process, increasing vendors and providing entertainment for all participants young and old.”

Runners can try their hand at the 21km, 10km or 5km races that will start at Glendale High School and end at Rocklands Sports Grounds. This year, the race is also a league race and is in its 11th year.

Partners include the City of Cape Town, Western Cape Department of Arts, Culture and Sport, Boxer Superstores, Total Sports, Peninsula Beverages, Smile 90.4fm and Liberty Promenade Mall.
