The Women’s Auxillary of the Presbyterian Church of Africa in Langa, spent Women’s Day at Ikhaya Labantu – an old age home in Zone 16 – to donate blankets, food and toiletries.
Nontsikelelo Ruda, the woman behind the idea, said she saw the need for blankets after paying the old age home a visit.
Ruda and the rest of her colleagues banded together to donate old and new blankets to the home so the elderly can keep warm during the winter season.
“We came together, brought old blankets we no longer use, washed them and donated them as a small gesture for the elderly in our community to celebrate Women’s Day,” said Ruda.
She added that the turnout was pretty good and she was very happy and grateful to her group for coming through with even more than they could have expected.
“The recipients were thrilled, while some couldn’t even hold back tears as a token of appreciation for the efforts of our women.”
