The u.19 netball team at Manzomthombo Secondary School in Mfuleni has won and made it to the top four in the Top School’s Netball Tournament which took place last week Saturday in Boksburg, Gauteng.
The team made up of 10 learners (Inganathi Kalasha, Noluvo Ngaleka, Simamkele Kolobile, Nwabisa Desha, Bulelwa Madikane, Khanya Mabote, Zanele Malgas, Unathi Mdala and Snalo Mtshaza) will represent the Western Cape Province in the finals from the 8th to the 10th of August at Wits University.
They have managed to maintain their winning reputation five times a row now.
Frank Xaba, the coach and educator at the school, couldn’t hide his pride and excitement. He said that he was overjoyed and couldn’t wait for the trip to Johannesburg.
“I’m so glad because now we get to enjoy the benefits of winning and being in the top four. Now we don’t have to worry about raising money for the trip, food and accommodation. All will be paid for,” he said.
Xaba said that it’s always a challenge when they have to attend these tournaments because they have to pay for everything out of their own pockets.
“I am extremely grateful to the staff of Manzomthombo and the parents who have always supported us,” he added.
The captain of the team, Sikhanyiso Mtshwepe, said that she is hopeful and has faith that they will win the championship.
“Our aim is to win and we are very excited, a bit nervous, but we believe in ourselves and we are confident we can win this,” she said.
