Nomzamo High School has again been awarded for its sterling work.
The school, which had the most improved matric results last year, was honoured for being a top performer in physical science, despite operating without a laboratory.
The school received a donation of technology items which included a projector, screen and printers.
A CEO of a company called Stone Three was apparently touched by what he saw as he passed the school, located along the N2, and informed his company to do something for the school.
Amanda Tsupe, a financial officer at Stone Three, says they met with school management and together they arrived at a vision governing a partnership between them.
“It is important for companies to support schools that achieve desired results despite difficult circumstances,” she told City Vision. “We liked what we saw at the school and wanted to help where we could.”
Tsupe said this was not the last donation the company will be giving to the school.
School principal Chris Mgubanto says the donation came at a right time.
“As a school in quintile three, we are really struggling with funding and the department can only do so much,” he says. “So I am happy and honoured by the donation.”
Teacher Andiswa Ncinitha said teaching will improve following the donation.
“We will be able to conduct teaching in a much better way now,” she says. “We will also be able to display what we teach on the screen, instead of going from child to child. The speakers will assist us with the videos we play.”
Athile Boniswa, a Grade 12 learner, says the donation will encourage learners to do more to improve the school’s pass rate.
“These will help us with our research projects and will motivate us to work hard to achieve good results,” he says.
The school is building a laboratory donated by the University of the Western Cape for performing well in last year’s matric exams.
