Former Ghetto Lingo member and now gospel artist, Martin Phike, aka Martin Pk, will grace Cape Town with his presence tomorrow, at His People Church for his DVD recording concert, which he describes as being more than just a DVD recording, but rather “a glimpse of heaven.”
According to Martin, the purpose of the concert is to re-introduce himself as a new man and share his musical ministry with his audience and also impart some grace in the Mother City.
“Why now? It’s God’s timing. My team and I had initially planned for Johannesburg, but the Lord said, take it to where it all started, and that’s my hometown, Kaapstad!
The timing is perfect because we are in a very exciting time in the body of Christ. It’s the year of the supernatural,” said Martin PK.
The born- again artist has won Hit song of the year in Nigeria twice. Back in 2012, he won Best Foreign artist for the EnSound Awards in the USA and also won song of the year twice in a row in the 2016/17LIMA awards.
Martin said he began his career at a very tender age, when he and his siblings would entertain his father’s guests with songs.
His introduction to the big scene began when Martin and his brother went on to form a trio named Inadiflo.
In 2004, he entered the Coca Cola Pop Stars competition, where his rise to fame started and was part of the winning boy band, Ghetto Lingo.
He later relocated to Jo’burg after winning the pop stars contest and has been living there since.
He said after receiving Christ in 2005/6, he began his transition from pop to gospel music. Martin added that he draws inspiration from artists such as Spinach, Kirk Franklin, JMoss, and the late great Lundi Tyamara.
“Gospel is my calling, my destiny, my purpose. So it’s not much of why Gospel, the question is why not!
Gospel means good news, the news of one laying his life down for another without selfishness or hidden agenda but birthed out of love ... The gospel is a lifestyle more than a genre for me. It’s a ministry, reconciling men back to their father,” he said.
