Police arrests make it hard for criminals to live

During this past week, police throughout the Nyanga Cluster arrested more than five hundred suspects, confiscated eight illegal firearms and different kinds of ammunition, various drugs, litres of liquor and stolen property.

The arrests were made during integrated operations conducted in the Cluster as well as crimes were reported.

The firearms were confiscated in Elsies River, Gugulethu, Manenberg and Nyanga areas and more than ten suspects apprehended.

Two hundred and thirty-four suspects alone were arrested for dealing and possession of drugs. The latter resulted to 7506g of dagga being confiscate, 1072g of cocaine, 250.5 mandrax tablets, 314.5g of tik and 23g of heroin.

Other suspects were apprehended for crimes against women and children, possession of hijacked vehicles, stolen vehicles, dangerous weapons, business robbery, assault GBH, attempted murder, house breaking and theft, house robbery, impersonating police official and drunken driving.

The Nyanga Cluster Management applauded members for their efforts and commitment shown in the fight against the scourge of crime and expressed their appreciation to community members who continue to share information with the police on criminal activities and illegal firearms in the area.
